The festival opens with a Pre-Party on at Henry Turner Jr.’s Listening Room on Thursday, Oct. 17. Pre-party performers include Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor and the Listening Room All-Stars. Special guest artists are Leslie Blackshear Smith and Ms. Pressure. The Pre-party is scheduled from 7:00 pm to midnight. The venue is located at 2733 North Street, Baton Rouge, LA 70802. Admission is $25 in advance and $30 at the door, and it includes a down-home-style Southern buffet and cash bar. The Taste of the Deep South Festival takes place at North Boulevard Town Square Oct. 19 and 20 from Noon until 8:00 pm. The event features various genres of music. The Galvez Plaza stage emphasizes world and new music, blues, soul, rock and R& B. The Town Lawn stage will feature buskers. The festival also has a Vendor Village with arts and crafts, clothing and jewelry and a food court with southern festival food favorites. Musical talent to date includes Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor, along with the Listening Room All-Stars. The Galvez Plaza stage opens on Saturday, October 19 with The Juke Joint Juniors, the West Baton Rouge Museum’s Blues After School Band, followed by Contemporary Christian singer Xavie Shorts. Pastor Leon Hitchens takes the stage at 2:00pm and the Phoenix Rouge Belly Dancing Troupe goes on at 2:45pm. Eilene Rockette takes a turn with some gospel/jazz and rapper Krazy D is on at 4:15pm followed by Princess Teha with an African/World Beat set. Southern Soul singer Wyanda Paul takes the stage right before Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor at 6:15pm. The first day of the festival closes out with the dance band LA Groove. Sunday, October 20 opens with Southern Soul singer Ms. Pressure, who is new to the festival, followed by Listening Room All-Stars King Solomon, comedian Eddie “Cool” Deemer and Kelton ‘Nspire Harper from 1:00 to 2:20 pm. Another new performer is Southern Soul singer Kenalliya, who is followed by Katrina at 2:45pm. Ervin “Maestro” Foster brings his smooth jazz set and another new performer Tawanna Louis joins the festival with more Southern Soul renditions. Rounding out the festival is Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor beginning at 4:30, followed by pop/funk singer-songwriter Kevin White and blues greats and returning festival favorites SmokeHouse Porter and Miss Mamie.
